CAD/DRAW for Windows Specification Sheet
TOMMYSOFTWARE'S CAD/DRAW runs under Windows 3.x and supports its
graphical user interface through a user-friendly and easily understood
program layout.
The program has an extensive, context-sensitive help function.
Commands can be chosen by menu, keyboard, or icons.
These icons are located in a window, the popup menu, which appears
after pressing the right mouse button and disappears after choosing the
command. In this way you can easily and quickly choose commands without
wasting precious space on the drawing area. The assignment of the popup menu
can be changed, so that you are able to create your personal popup menu.
The assignment of the keyboard can also be configured according to your
personal needs. For that you have the possibility to assign every letter key
or numeric key with up to 3 commands.
TOMMYSOFTWARE'S CAD/DRAW provides extensive configuration
possibilities, which enables you to adapt the program to your personal
workplace. The program has an undo/redo function, i.e. the last operation
can be undone. You can choose out of various sheet formats complying with
DIN/ISO standard and several US formats. In addition you have the possibilty
to enter a value for the sheet size in millimeter or inch respectively.
Possible length units are: micrometer, millimeter, centimeter, meter,
kilometer, inch, foot, yard, mile, dezipoint, point, didot, and cicero.
There are three possible angle units: degree, gon, and radian. The current
unit determines the scale and all other settings and commands which base on
length or angle units respectively, e.g. the measure command.
The program supports up to 256 drawing layers. Every layer can be
individually faded out, frozen, or displayed in a certain color. Further it
is possible to define a pen for each layer, which defines the line width,
line color, and line pattern of all objects that will be drawn in this
layer.
All input is done with the mouse or by the keyboard through a
context-sensitive direct input, i.e. at any time a dialog box can be opened
which refers to the current command and enables you to input data.
Important information, like the current coordinates, are being
permanently displayed in the status window. Extensive drawing functions
guarantee efficient working even if the task is rather special, e.g.: line,
polyline, triangle, quadrangle, rectangle, trapezium, parallelogram,
polyeder, circle, circle arc, circle ring, ellipse, ellipse arc, ellipse
ring, parabola, zigzag line, circle arc chain, Bezier chain, spline, and
outline.
Various manipulation functions, e.g. copy, move, scale, rotate,
reflect, sheer, center, lock, release, foreground and background are also
available.
TOMMYSOFTWARE'S CAD/DRAW provides numerous construction functions:
Construction line: perpendicular on line, perpendicular on circle, parallel
variable, and parallel fixed. Construction tangent: circle - point, circle -
circle outside, and circle - circle inside. Construction circle:
circumcircle, incircle, perpendicular on line, and perpendicular on circle.
Division: distance, circle, and array. Multiple copy: rotation, distance,
circle, and array.
The freely configurable hatch function allows hatching with lines of
which attributes (line width, line color, and line pattern), distance and
slope are editable. Further it is possible to use a symbol which is
automatically resolved into lines previously as a hatch pattern.
Measure lines and associative measure functions comply with DIN 406.
If you want to choose an object in order to manipulate it, you do this
by the selecting it. You can select or deselect individual objects or whole
areas of your drawing. In addition it is possible to select an object by
means of its attributes (e.g. line width, color, or layer membership). The
selection has a central meaning, because only selected objects can be
manipulated. Of course the selection is still valid after a manipulation.
This makes it possible to do several manipulations one after the other
without selecting them each time.
By means of the outlines you can create any form of area. These
outlines consist of a sequence of lines and Bezier curves and can also be
changed later.
Several grid settings (cartesian, isometric, and dimetric) allow the
exact positioning of points. The distance between grid lines can be chosen
arbitrarily.
The library functions are able to handle up to 900 symbols in one
library. The creation of your own libraries is possible. Part of the program
package are 4 vector fonts. Because the vector fonts in TOMMYSOFTWARE'S
CAD/DRAW are merely specially handled libraries you can change these fonts
or create completely new ones.
The current drawing detail can be moved with the arrow keys and the
scroll bars. Several zoom commands allow you to zoom and pan. It is also
possible to save certain zooms to choose them later if necessary.
Via the Windows clipboard you can either import or export graphic data.
In this way you can for example insert a drawing created with
TOMMYSOFTWARE'S CAD/DRAW into a document which you created with a word
processing program.
The import and export of foreign formats, like for example DXF files,
is done by special import/export converters. These converters are
independent from TOMMYSOFTWARE'S CAD/DRAW and can either be started by a
program function or as an independent Windows application.
